The Twin Cities brewery scene is getting squeezed right now. HeadFlyer poured its last taproom beer in April. Fair State's beloved Central Ave taproom went dark in December. And as I put this together, Bauhaus announced it's closing too. Rising costs, shifting tastes, tariffs on imported equipment, and a hospitality industry rattled by a hard year with Operation Metro Surge. The pressure is real, and it's citywide.

It's a real bummer. But it's also exactly why a guide like this is worth making.

So consider this less a "best of" listicle and more a love letter with a purpose. Go find a place you've never been, give 'em your money, and get your Dad bod on while you're at it if you must.

A few notes before you dive in:

🐕 means dogs are welcome inside the taproom. 🌳 means patio or beer garden only.

*** Policies shift with the seasons and the staff on shift, so call ahead if your pup is the guest of honor.

I haven't personally pulled a stool at all 30 (yet — give me time, I've gotta pace myself). This is a curated guide, so where you see "I've heard" or a credited claim, it's basically word on the street. Take it for what it is, and kindly refrain from scolding me like my Grandmother did when I ate her warm lefse without butter and sugar.

Alright. Enough of that. Let's go find you a beer.

Downtown Minneapolis

Modist Brewing 🐕 | modistbrewing.com 505 N 3rd St Modist starts with a flavor concept and builds the beer style backward — one of the more creative philosophies in Twin Cities brewing. Expect rotating experimental taps alongside fan favorites like their oak-foeder-aged lagers. A block from Target Field, so it fills up before Twins games. Dogs are welcome inside.

InBound BrewCo 🐕 | inboundbrew.co 701 N 5th St, North Loop A massive 12,000 sq ft converted recycling facility with floor-to-ceiling windows, a German beer hall vibe, an upstairs arcade, and a live music stage. Food trucks park outside regularly. They secured a city variance to welcome leashed dogs inside the taproom — not just on the patio.

Fulton Beer 🌳 | fultonbeer.com 414 6th Ave N, North Loop Minneapolis' very first taproom, opened in 2012 after Fulton helped change Minnesota state law to allow taprooms at all. Twenty rotating taps, including the Hop Kingdom IPA and the beloved Sweet Child of Vine pale ale. Opens early for every Twins home game. Dogs welcome on the patio.

Day Block Brewing 🌳 | dayblockbrewing.com 1105 S Washington Ave, Mill District A downtown brewpub built around the craft-beer-and-pizza pairing, set in a 19th-century building with a wonderfully odd past (hospital, furniture store, plumbing supply). Happy hour Tuesday–Friday, live music most weekends, Sunday brunch. Dog-friendly patio — though their patio-service signage can be confusing, so a quick call ahead never hurts.

Northeast Minneapolis

Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative

Indeed Brewing 🌳 | indeedbrewing.com 225 N 2nd St The first production brewery to open a Northeast taproom. Beloved for the Day Tripper Pale Ale, Mexican Honey Light, and their barrel-aged Wooden Soul wild ale series. Every Wednesday, 100% of taproom net profits go to a local nonprofit chosen by employees — one of the most community-forward breweries in the city. Leashed dogs welcome on the patio, and they'll bring out a water dish.

Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative 🐕 | brokenclockbrew.com 1712 Marshall St NE A member-owned cooperative with three concepts under one roof: craft beer, Unidos Food Co. (a Latin kitchen with hard-shell tacos, rice bowls, and fresh salsas), and Curioso Coffee Bar for morning espresso. Pool table, patio, and a steady calendar of community events. Dog-friendly inside.

Insight Brewing 🌳 | insightbrewing.com 2821 E Hennepin Ave A big, airy taproom in an old Northeast brick warehouse with a generous outdoor patio and bar. Hosts food trucks and, by most accounts, some of the best parties in the metro. The taproom holds 220+, making it a solid pick for private events. Dogs welcome on the patio.

56 Brewing 🐕 | 56brewing.com 3055 Columbia Ave NE A tucked-away Northeast spot with a solid barrel-aged program, rotating sours and IPAs, and locally sourced ingredients. Patio, pinball, and dog-friendly. We've heard it called one of the best hidden finds in Northeast — and we're inclined to agree.

Falling Knife Brewing 🌳 | fallingknife.beer 783 Harding St NE One of the few Twin Cities taprooms offering full table service, which regulars rave about. Hop-forward with Belgian and German influences, and a pinball alley on site. Dogs welcome on the patio — they keep treats and water bowls on hand.

Dangerous Man Brewing 🌳 | dangerousmanbrewing.com 861 E Hennepin Ave — reopening late spring 2026 A beloved Northeast institution making its comeback. After closing in 2023 and a winding road through new ownership (Jeremy Kuhns took the reins, with founder Rob Miller staying on as head brewer), Dangerous Man is reopening in the former HeadFlyer taproom space. Expected to open by late May or early June 2026 — worth checking their site before you head over.

An 18,000 sq ft taproom on Bassett Creek surrounded by city parks, with a gorgeous creekside beer garden and European-style lagers and hefeweizens. Home to the "Live at Utepils" summer concert series. Well-behaved dogs welcome in the beer garden.

Leashed, well-behaved dogs welcome inside and on the patio.

La Doña Cervecería 🌳 | dameladona.com 241 Fremont Ave N, Near North A for-benefit Latino-owned brewery fusing Latin culture with Minnesota beer. Barrel Theory Beer Company 🌳 | barreltheory.com 248 7th St E, Lowertown A craft destination for serious beer fans, consistently named a must-visit. Known for hazy IPAs, big adjunct stouts, and a rotating lineup that sets trends rather than chasing them. Located blocks from Mears Park, CHS Field, and the Green Line.

Wandering Leaf Brewing 🐕 | wanderingleafbrewing.com 2463 7th St W, Highland Park A quieter Highland Park gem with great natural light, live plants everywhere, a beautiful beer garden, and famously friendly staff. ⚠️ A Moment of Silence

Fair State Brewing Cooperative — Minnesota's first cooperatively owned brewery closed its Central Avenue NE taproom in December 2025 after a long fight through bankruptcy. The good news: the Fair State brand lives on under Ranchers Beverage Co., so you'll still find their beer on shelves and taps around town. The taproom, sadly, is gone.

Bauhaus Brew Labs — A 12-year Northeast Minneapolis institution, closing at the end of June 2026 with a farewell celebration the weekend of June 26–28. The brewery cited rising costs, supply chain challenges, shifting consumer habits, and the impact of recent federal immigration enforcement on the hospitality industry. Go raise a glass before they close.
