The Minneapolis Edit

Over the past few weeks in Minneapolis, I’ve watched thousands of (mostly) Minnesota women build a decentralized mutual aid network in response to ICE activity across our communities. I’ve had coffee with several friends who tell me their experience in detail and it is super natural.
So this week, I share a few thoughts on said “human hive” and because I believe community and joy is so critical always, but especially right now, I’ve included a few fun things to do this weekend. This is a great way to support our local businesses who have suffocated financially over the last month!
Enjoy, loves. xo- Jen
** Please note, in no way do I intend to diminish the contributions men have made. When I talk about this “hive” I’m referring to the underground signal chat groups in which the vast majority were women.

The Hive Has No Queen
What’s unfolding across Minneapolis and beyondvmight be the blueprint for something bigger.

This hive has no queen.
Minnesota’s heroines built an underground human hive, and I’m not sure the world grasps the marvel it is.
In a matter of days, thousands of women snapped instantaneously into their knowing—instinct moving them into supernatural, action. Erecting an intricate infrastructure not in a building, but in encrypted chats, spreadsheets, and late-night carpools, housed safely in the hearts of the true warriors.
Alerts come in, the colony unifies, alarms rally the defense, dispatch connects, tasks fan out—and within minutes, observers are on scene, an attorney files habeas saving another, moms master Excel like it’s their full-time job, some quit jobs, secret grocery runs and school drop offs, recording ICE license plates, gathering funds, starting LLCs writing checks for rent. Strategizing with more stamina in one hive hexagon than a whole army of kidnapping pea-brained peons. our hive-mind rebels refusing to let humans be disposable.
But this hive has no queen, and certainly no kings. No one posturing for a peace prize or power. No precious time pandering to egos. No space for greed. It’s a miracle of collective generosity, and brilliant orchestration where each cell comes online and the ecosystem locks into full function—being who we’re meant to be, doing the work the hive was created for.
So when I hear people talking about how we need new social support systems… how the government has broken all trust and won’t come to save us… how we need not just reform, but revolution… I have to wonder: Is this the proof of concept we’ve been waiting for? Will history write about these heroines? And what if these midwives just birthed the hive and the whole damn honeycomb?
